2/2/2024 0 Comments Dosbox frameskipThanks for bringing this up the more seamless we can make life for users and ourselves, the The config option "monochrome_pal" was added long time ago, and I agree that some existing config items may not be named or placed very well. When we add munt and 3dfx, we will certainly see if we can use the existing set (and likely subset) from DOSBox-X. Just sharing my thinking not criticizing. Also, _pal might be easily confused as the video standard versus ntsc so I would always try to differentiate pallette (colors space) vs PAL (the video standard). But perhaps other rules are at play like using a full first word followed by truncating additional words?). ie: mono_palette would have done a better job. so the logic of why one was truncated but the other left full doesn't make sense if saving characters is the goal. Just as an example: monochrome_pal mixes using a longer-full word with a truncated shorter word (palette is 7 chars vs 10 for monochrome. But going forward for new common features we will always see if the DOSBox-X approach makes sense and fits. I think for existing variables it might be harder for the projects to overlap. Potential values however are often typed by users, so we stay consistent with other dosbox conf values and don't use underscores. When it comes to adding a new config item, its named using full words separated with underscores (yes, this can be verbose, but it's written by dosbox on empty startup, so the user isn't expected to remember these or type them out). Yeah, in general in staging we're trying to remove configurable options if we can determine an objective "best setting" without exceptions.
